We won’t allow ECOWAS choose our President in 2016 - Mac Manu

Former Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu has underscored the party's resolve to ensure a new register is used for the 2016 general elections.

According to him, Ghanaians are not ready to allow nationals of other countries determine the President of Ghana.

“A new voters register will be used for the 2016 elections because that is what the people of Ghana want,” he stressed on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday.

The NPP after painstaking investigations revealed that more than 76,000 names of Togolese nationals who are registered to vote in their country can be found in the Ghanaian electoral roll.

The Togolese nationals, according to the opposition party, have been crossing the Ghanaian border to come and register to enable them exercise their franchise in the nation's elections.

This exposé is to make a strong case for the EC to come up with a new register to avoid the problems in 2016. But the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have described the NPP claims of a bloated register as fraudulent and frivolous.

However, Mac Manu expressed shock at the posture of the NDC as all they are seeking to do is to have a clean register. He said the bloated Ghanaian electoral roll is now an ECOWAS register because names of nationals of various countries in the sub-region are found in it.

“We are not going to sit down for ECOWAS to determine who will become Ghana’s president,” he opined. The NPP former Chairman added that the evidence presented to the EC is overwhelming, thus they have no other choice than to change the register.

Peter Mac Manu said the only motivation for the NPP‘s new voters register campaign is to have an elections with quality and integrity.

I will act nude for good cash - Actress

Up-and coming actress Andrea Owusu, has given strong indication that she is willing to act nude provided the money is good and she is handed a strong role in the movie at the peak of her promising career.

A vivacious, open-minded character, the 24-year-old actress, known in showbiz circles as Efia Odo, is not oblivious of the negative perception and contempt she might court in society for such a daring role, but she is nonetheless ready to give it a shot to make a strong statement.

“I am definitely willing to act nude but on the conditions that I am given a strong role in a great script in a movie which pays well and I would only do that at the point in my career where I am firmly established as an actress. Nude roles are also a part of acting and as an actress I should be able to portray any character I am given,” she told Showbiz in an exclusive interview.

A strong character who has grabbed the headlines for her somewhat provocative sense of fashion, the Royal Diadem actress admitted that her dress sense was a reflection of her personality and not a means to seek attention.

Born in Ghana, she relocated to the United States at the age of five and lived overseas until she returned to the country seven months ago to pursue her passion in acting. At the premiere of Royal Diadem at the Silverbird Cinema recently, the young actress was dressed to kill, as she turned heads in her braless dress, cleavage-revealing on the red carpet. In fact, her Instagram page is awash with photographs of Efia Odo in various trendy outfits which enhance her considerable curves and also reflects her persona.

“I dress the way I want based on how I am feeling at the moment. At certain times I feel like dressing sexy and showing some skin, other times I feel like dressing in a different way and that should not be a problem for anyone,” she said.

But the actress insists she had strong morals in spite of her free-spirited lifestyle fashion sense, questioning why some people would form preconceived notions about her when they actually have no knowledge whatsoever about her.

“People usually believe I am a party girl or someone who is promiscuous simply based on my dressing but in reality I am a free spirit, open minded person with a good heart. I am very friendly and pleasant so before anyone attempts to judge me, the person should make an effort to know me first,” she said.

Being in the public eye often comes with expectations from society but Efia would not allow herself to be bogged down by societal expectations of her. In fact, she admitted to Showbiz she was aware Ghanaians were typically conservative and expect to be a conformist, but she had closed her ears to all such negative comments.

“I am not your typical Ghanaian girl so I don’t pay any attention to what people say. I am not ready to pretend to be someone I am not so if people don’t understand that, that’s their problem,” the sexy actress said.

However, she was unwilling to open up on her relationship status, declining to admit whether she was single or not but said she was still considering her options.

Efia revealed that she currently holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the Nyack University in the United States and her ultimate goal is to take her career beyond the shores of Africa.

Jesus Christ could be a black man, broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah has said in an interview with KOD.

She told the host of Live360, contrary to popular belief, Christ is dark-skinned.

“What do I see when I picture God and Jesus? I see a very caring man who will do anything for mankind and willing to forgive us.

“Physical attributes? I think Jesus must be really handsome. I’ve seen a lot of pictures claiming that is Jesus Christ but when I picture Jesus, I don’t see a white man, I see a black man. I dont see a whiteman as Jesus Christ. I see Jesus as a black man, that’s how I picture him.”

Colorado gunman to be formally sentenced to death

Colorado movie massacre gunman James Holmes will be sentenced to life with no chance of parole at a three-day hearing that begins on Monday following his conviction last month for murdering 12 people and wounding 70 in his rampage.

While the murder convictions carry mandatory life sentences with no parole, Colorado law requires that Arapahoe County District Court Judge Carlos Samour formally impose the penalties. Samour must also decide the punishment for the other charges Holmes was convicted of.

A jury found Holmes guilty of 165 counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder and explosive charges stemming from the July 20, 2012, mass shooting inside a Denver-area multiplex during a midnight screening of a Batman movie.

The 27-year-old onetime neuroscience graduate student had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, and prosecutors had sought the death penalty.

The nine-woman, three-man jury could not unanimously agree to condemn Holmes to death during the trial's penalty phase. Under Colorado law, he must automatically serve 12 consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.

About 100 people are set to give victim impact statements at this week's hearing, the Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office said in a statement. The victims cannot address Holmes directly.

After the testimony from victims, lead prosecutor George Brauchler will present his sentencing argument, the statement said.

Defence lawyers can present mitigation evidence on the attempted murder convictions, but it is unclear if they will do so. It is also unknown whether Holmes will make a statement before he is sentenced. He declined to speak in his own defence throughout the earlier proceedings.

The California native could ultimately be sentenced to a maximum of 3,318 years in prison, in addition to the mandatory life sentences, prosecutors said.

Why Morning Sex Will Always Be The Best

There are some small moments in life that are really great. Turning on the television at the exact moment Robin Williams is giving his moving “Dead Poet’s Society” speech.
Unexpectedly learning that your entire purchase has been discounted 30 percent at checkout.
Glancing down at your phone to see a surprising text from a potential mate. All these instances make us feel like the universe is on our side.
The same goes for sex. While getting laid is always good, there are some choice encounters that qualify as really, really great.
In the morning haze, when you’re at your most vulnerable and still easing into the day, nothing beats the feeling of having someone next to you wrap his arms around you and make you feel wanted.
Morning sex is like eating chocolate cake for breakfast — it’s decadent, indulgent and comforting. Plus, who doesn’t want to linger in bed just a little longer?
The benefits extend to more than just being uncharacteristically nice to everyone for the rest of the day. Multiple studies have shown that individuals who engage in morning sex are healthier and happier people. Your post-coital glow that others are noticing isn’t totally bogus.
Waking up to an eager partner sure as hell beats waking up to an alarm clock.
Here are all the reasons morning sex is the best sex.

1. Because you’ll actually remember it.

This is a win for you and your girlfriends, who will appreciate the fully detailed recap later.
Normally you can’t recollect anything save a few fragments, “I think it was um, good?”; “He was hot, right? You guys saw him?” But now you’ll be able to fill in all the good stuff.

2. You’re guaranteed to wake up on the right side of the bed.

Sex in the morning gets you — and the day — off right. Researchers from the University of Cincinnati found that morning sex is a natural stress-reliever and these effects can last for at least seven days, meaning your early Monday romp could ease those Sunday Blues.
Morning sex also increases levels of IgA, an antibody that helps to fight against infection, according to Dr. Debby Herbenick, an American research scientist and author of “Because It Feels Good.” It’s like taking your daily vitamins… only way more pleasurable.

3. You can skip the gym.

It’s a way better alternative to a morning workout before hopping into the shower. Scientists confirm that an hour of sex burns almost as many calories as a 30-minute jog.
After an hour, men and women burn an average of 240 calories and 180 calories, respectively.
While that length of straight thrusting might be wishful thinking (unless you’re of the jack-hammer variety), like any good exercise routine, at least you’ll have something to work up to.

4. Who doesn’t want to begin the day with an orgasm?

It’s like Christmas morning — there’s a package waiting for you to enjoy. And everyone scores.

5. Because your clothes are already off.

This does make for a speedier process, which is key for weekday mornings.
Heed the advice of great philosopher and first man to state the obvious, Aristotle, ”If everyone is naked, it only follows then that we should have sex.” Wise guy.

6. You can carpool after.

Who needs to drive to work when you’re already riding dirty?

7. It’s more intimate.

The few minutes we have to ourselves after first opening our eyes are special. Most people who you’re in regular contact with have no idea what you look, sound, smell and feel like first thing in the morning. It’s a rare moment to others that’s all to yourself.
Fill that moment in with another person and it becomes a shared secret privy to only you two. That’s what makes morning sex so intimate.
It’s stripped of everything — clothes, makeup, the weight of a day’s events, toothpaste, priorities — and somehow leaves you feeling fuller.

8. Because shower sex just doesn’t cut it.

The water in your face, the slippery surfaces (especially where feet are concerned!), the soap in places that can’t support life with soap — shower sex is like the sh*tty water park version of intercourse you indulge in when you have nothing better to do over the summer.
Morning sex is the more fun, cooler theme park. Better than Disney.

9. It affirms that you two are still interested in each other sober.

Any sex that is not drunk and sloppy means there’s hope. When the lights are on, it’s even better getting off.

10. Because you love an excuse to gloat at work.

Coworker 1: How was your night?
You: I had amazing morning sex.
Coworker 2: I’m so stressed.
You: Morning sex could fix that. I would know.
Coworker 3: Where do you want to go for lunch?
You: Some place where they sell morning sex all day.

11. It’s a better replacement for coffee.

Sex gets you going first thing in the morning. A poke in the back jolts you awake in a way that caffeine can’t.
If you become addicted, we understand.

12. You leave on a high.

Morning sex is ending the night on a good note. Especially in more “foreign” bedrooms, post-morning sex acts as an inoffensive cue to exit. We f*cked. Now SCRAM!

13. There’s nothing like a good c*ck rooster to wake you up.

Exposed early breath, post-coital glow, natural daylight to contour your face — morning sex makes waking up early totally worth it.

Rahman is Chelsea's pure left back - Mourinho

The 21-year-old Ghanaian signed from Augsburg a week ago and arrived at Cobham for the first time Tuesday, August 18.

Mourinho in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game with West Brom said Rahman’s strengths would be key to Chelsea’s title defence.

"He's our pure left-back, because (Cesar) Azpilicueta is an adaptation," explained Mourinho.

"He's left-footed, a left-back, the offensive one, the one that has a cross, has a pass, and likes to go forward. I would say he's a younger Filipe Luis.

"Filipe Luis is a good player, that’s why he plays for Atletico (Madrid) and for the Brazil national team. Baba is a young Filipe – Filipe is 30, Baba is 21."

I look up to EL, Sarkodie, Samini and Ayigbe Edem – Stonebwoy

Stonebwoy in an interview with KSM on Metro TV after he won this year’s Artiste of the Year award said that Samini, Sarkodie, El, Ayigbe Edem are the people he cannot stop talking about so far as his music is concerned.

“I cannot stop talking about EL, Sarkodie, Samini and Ayigbe Edem, these are people I use or I see as yard sticks in the music industry and I always want to learn from them. I do not want to copy what someone else is doing but I love to learn, my manager will tell you that, I cannot stop talking about these four,” he said.

About his wining the Artiste of the year at this year’s Vodafone Music Awards, he said; “I cannot even feel I have won any award and it only shows that, there is room for improvement, there is more study to be done. Due to this, I don’t have the time to look at who I want to rise more than.”

He said this while discussing issues related to rivalry and beef in Ghana’s music industry.

Kwesi Nyantakyi Rubbishes League Suspension Reports

The topflight game will only return in September but the Caf Executive Committee member sees no default and confirms schedule to be on course.

The president of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi has moved to clarify issues surrounding the perceived postponement of the Ghana Premier League, stating that the competition is going on as planned.

The GFA has come under intense criticism for its decision to put the league on hold with just two rounds of matches to go. Many have called the move ‘untimely’ and described the body as ‘confused’.

However, Nyantakyi, who on Tuesday was re-elected for a third successive term in office, spoke on the latest hullabaloo regarding the local flagship competition after the renewal of his mandate.

“The league has not been postponed,” Nyantakyi told the media.

“The break in the league is part of the programme for the league, and it happens everywhere in the world.

“We decided to break the league in order to play FA Cup matches and other matches.”

The Ghana Premier league is set for a three-week break after matchday 28 last Sunday, and is scheduled to resume on September 6.

“The league would be played afterwards,” Nyantakyi added.

“It is not an unexpected event. It’s in the calendar and so it is not a postponement.”

Ashanti Gold are currently on top of the league standing, and are only a win away from claiming their first title in 18 years after opening a four-point lead.

Interestingly, barring AshGold and second-placed Aduana Stars, all other club in the sixteen-team league could face possible relegation, with only five points separating third-placed Asante Kotoko and fourteenth-placed Bechem United.

Full Details: Why Medical Doctors Called Off Strike

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has called off its three week old strike. The decision to call off the strike was taken after an executive council meeting by the leaders of the Ghana Medical Association held Friday.

The doctors withdrew their services on July 30, 2015 in protest over the absence of a codified conditions of service.
They were demanding a signed document detailing a number of entitlements to be given to them as part of their conditions of service.
Below is the full statement issued by the GMA:

PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED AT THE END OF AN EMERGENCY NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING, HELD IN ACCRA ON AUGUST 21, 2015.

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) having met and extensively deliberated on the ongoing industrial action by the Members of the GMA and having discussed all developments including the following;

1. Dedication of GMA Members

The determination and dedication of the members of the GMA to fight for a negotiated and signed Conditions of Service document for doctors in Ministry of Health (MOH) and its agencies cannot be over emphasized. All doctors in the public sector have indeed proven that we have the tenacity and the capacity to fight for our future and shall continue to work together to achieve our goals. The National Executive Council of the GMA would like to salute our gallant doctors. It is clear to everybody that the fight has just started and our determination to get a negotiated and signed Conditions of Service document shall never be abandoned until same is achieved.

2. Appeals

The National Executive Council of the GMA in its deliberations took into consideration the appeals by the ordinary Ghanaians, the wise counsel of certain eminent individuals and some credible organizations.

The intervention of former Heads of State, Otumfuo Osei Tutu Il (Asantehene), Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin (Okyehene), the Christian Council, Catholic Bishops Conference, Ghana Pentecostal Council, Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), the National House of Chiefs, the Peace Council, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Ghana Health. Service Council, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, and sections of the media. It is the hope of the GMA that, all these people who have intervened will not relent on their effort to ensure that doctors in this country get their Conditions of Service to forestall future occurrence of this industrial unrest.

3. Insults by Government Communicators

The GMA at this moment forgives all these individuals who out of ignorance and other motivations took the path of insults in their attempt to resolve this industrial unrest by doctors to demand a legitimate right. It is the hope of the GMA that, these people will take a cue from this protracted industrial dispute and realize that, insults including threats of armed robbery attacks do very little to help matters when it comes to labour disputes.

4. National Labour Commission (NLC) Directive

The NLC in time past has woefully failed to enforce its rulings in favour of the GMA against government. It is our hope that the NLC would leave up to expectation this time around.

5. Government’s Ultimatums, Intimidations and Threats Threats by governments and its agencies rather increased the resolve of the GMA.

It is the position of the GMA that, the government has taken an entrenched position throughout the process of negotiations. The government instead of adopting a problem solving approach rather chose to go on the tangent of threats and intimidations. We would like to indicate that, these threats, intimidations and ultimatums do not solve any problems in the industrial front.

6. Opinion of So-Called Labour Consultants

The GMA finds it very unfortunate that some individuals who call themselves labour consultants chose the path of emotions in expressing their opinion in this matter. It was the hope of the GMA that some of these people could have been more professional in their work instead of choosing to only see one side of the coin and in all their communications clearly showed bias towards the GMA. Indeed, some of these so-called labour consultants have proven to all and sundry that they are more of government communicators and propagandists than professionals.

In as much as NEC is aware that the general membership would like to pursue this matter to its logical conclusion, the NEC of the GMA decides as follows:

a. That the ongoing withdrawal of out-patient and emergency services by members of the GMA is suspended. b. That the suspension takes effect from Monday 24th of August, 2015.

c. That all members of the GMA should fully restore their services effective 8.00am on the said date.

d. That the Negotiation Committee of the GMA should continue to negotiate on behalf of the members of the GMA with government such that the conclusions of negotiations would be fed into the 2016 budget for implementation of same.

e. That all members should wait for further information from leadership as and when it becomes necessary.

Signed by President of GMA, Dr Kwabena Opoku Adusei; and General Secretary, Dr Frank Serebour.

I'm not a cheap actor: My name alone scares people

A new movie, the Royal Diadem has been rolling at the cinemas. It premiered on 7th August, 2015 at the West Hills and Accra malls.

What is the fuss about this movie, which is produced by Eric Attakora and directed by Eddie Nartey? Well, it tells the story of young people who go beyond their selfish desires to protect their loved ones.

But that is not the matter at heart. Rather, in the Royal Diadem, you will see Mr. “Twoosweet Annan” – the man whose real name is Eddie Annan. The 30-year-old is only seven years old in the Ghana movie industry but already distinguished as one of the finest actors ever to enter the fold.

In this warts and all interview with the Weekend Sun, Annan x-rays life as an actor since his advent in 2008 when he was only 23 years old. One of the more specific revelations is about how he was compelled to act movies for free for the first five years of his career.

Also, find out about the female actors whose mere presence made Annan

tremble so much that he became too weak to even perform.

And, the Happy Deathday actor also disclosed something very personal about actress Juliet Ibrahim.

Now, sit back and enjoy the following excerpts.

How did you become an actor?

It all started in 2008. But then, I nearly gave up on acting because at almost every audition I attended, I was offered a role which I wasn’t comfortable with. At a point, I wanted to give up until I met Joseph Serebour of Peace Films who offered me a role in a movie. He gave me my first job – it was The Supremo which starred actors like Jackie Appiah, Kalsoume Sinare, Juliet Ibrahim and John Dumelo.

How old were you at that point?

I was 23.

Were you done with school?

I had just completed my Fine Arts course at the College of Art and I was ready to start my acting career.

Does it mean that acting has always been something you wanted to do?

Yes; because I used to act as a child. So after I finished my Fine Art course I knew I would go back. It was not a mistake.

Was your family receptive of your decision to do movies?

My mother was fine but my father was always complaining. I used to attend auditions with a cousin of mine and at some point that cousin got an energy drink advert deal. My dad kept asking when it would be my turn because he felt I was wasting money and resources moving from one audition to another. So, when my first job came out and my mum called to tell me she saw it on television, I really wanted my dad to also know about it. After he saw it, he was so proud and encouraged me.

Before that time, did your father have other plans for you?

Yes. My dad always wanted me to be a fashion designer like him. Actually, after Junior High School I worked for him for a while; about eight months before I went to Senior High School. It is still in me but I am just waiting for the right time to bring it out.

Let’s go back to acting. What is your inspiration?

Well, when I had my first job I didn’t really struggle to get other jobs because after my first job people kept coming. So it wasn’t so tough.

You seem to be saying that your journey so far has been an easy one.

It is not as easy as I make it sound. I knew what I wanted in the industry. When you begin you are not paid enough, sometimes you are not even paid at all. When I began I was more focused on building a career rather than the money. So, I was actually not charging for five years.

How do you mean you were acting for free for five years?

It wasn’t really for free but when someone approached me, I didn’t charge them. Rather, I just told them to give me what they deemed befitting for the role. So it was more like I was doing it for free. I just did it because I was enjoying the acting. I used those five years to pay my dues. But in 2013, I began to charge.

So how expensive are you?

Very expensive to the extent that when my name is mentioned people normally say: “I can’t pay him.”

Would you say you have arrived?

Yes, the time is here and now.

How many movies have you acted?

I’ve lost count but I would say about 40; mostly Ghanaian but I just got back from Nigeria where I went to shoot my first Nigerian movie titled “Circle of Trust.”

Which movie would you say has since been your best?

“Happy Deathday” is my best movie.

Any awards yet?

Yes! I won the best upcoming actor award in Abuja in 2012. I also had the most promising actor award in 2013.

Talking of promising talents, do you think the Ghanaian industry allows the growth of young people?

I think it is better now. I have been on jobs where I met new actors who are really good.

What are some of the challenges you face as an actor?

Challenges, I used to get really nervous whenever I acted with someone new. When I started acting with Jackie Appiah, I was really nervous. My second job I met Nadia and it was worse. I think that was one of the biggest challenges but now I’m okay.

Who is your crush in the industry?

I would say Juliet Ibrahim; and in Nigeria, Genevieve Nnaji and Monalisa Chinda.

Are you in a relationship?

Yes, I am. I have been for a very long time; about seven years. People don’t see me to be that kind of a man but I am faithful and a one woman man.

How soon would the marriage be?

All I can say is it would be very soon.

How do you manage the female pressures as an actor?

Well, I think the key is to keep them in the circle. You don’t entertain them too much but be nice and don’t cross the line. It is very difficult but I try.

Is the Ghanaian movie industry lucrative as much as the Nigerian movie industry?

It is very lucrative. I get paid well.

What is your worse moment as an actor?

I think it’s when the director is not in a good mood because it makes the whole “set” tensed. It can be really tensed.

Apart from movies what else do you do?

I currently own a pub at East Legon called “briefcase”. Although my job doesn’t really give me the luxury of time I am very much involved in its operations.

What do young people who look up to you need to know?

It’s not rosy. It is very tough out there. They just have to keep pushing because someone might be somewhere watching. That’s how it happens. They need to also be very humble.
